On 1 June 2023, Johan Karlsson will join the partnership at Kastell. Johan was most recently a partner at Vinge, where he helped build a renowned EU and competition law practice, which he has been in charge of for the past fifteen years. Johan Karlsson has long been ranked as one of the leading and most popular advisers in EU and competition law in Sweden.
Johan Karlsson has profound knowledge across the competition law spectrum, combined with almost thirty years’ practical experience. He represents both small and large companies and organisations in all kinds of competition law matters before the Swedish Competition Authority, the European Commission and other authorities, as well as before arbitration tribunals and courts, including the EU courts. Johan also has significant experience in closely related areas such as State aids, public procurement law and general compliance, as well as in sports law. Johan Karlsson is the creator and author of the reference work Competition law – a handbook, 6th ed., 2022 (sw. Konkurrensrätt – en handbok (6:e uppl., 2022)) and of a commentary on the Competition Law Damages Act (2023). He has also published a number of articles in leading journals and other publications. Johan is regularly asked to speak at conferences and seminars and is active in numerous Swedish and international fora and networks. For many years, he has been an adviser to the Swedish Competition Authority in the International Competition Network (ICN) and he was instructed as an expert in the inquiry regarding increased decision-making powers for the Swedish Competition Authority (sw. En utökad beslutanderätt för Konkurrensverket (SOU 2016:49)). Johan Karlsson is also a member of the National Sports Committee (sw. Riksidrottsnämnden (RIN).
