Johan Karlsson is one of Sweden’s most renowned EU and competition law practitioners and has for many years been ranked as one of the best lawyers in this area. Johan has extensive experience also in related areas such as state aid, public procurement as well as in sports law. He represents large and small companies and organisations in matters before Swedish authorities, the European Commission and the EFTA Surveillance Authority as well as in litigation before Swedish and EU courts and arbitration tribunals. Johan is an advisor to the Swedish Competition Authority in the International Competition Network (ICN) and served as an expert in the governmental inquiry regarding increased decision-making powers for the Swedish Competition Authority (Utökad beslutanderätt för Konkurrensverket, SOU 2016:49). Johan is active in several Swedish and international fora and networks and has published several articles in leading journals and other publications. He is the creator and author of the Swedish reference work Competition law – a handbook (Konkurrensrätt – en handbook, 2022) and of a commentary on the Competition Damages Act (Konkurrensskadelagen – en kommentar, 2023). Johan also serves as a member of the Swedish Supreme Sports Tribunal (Riksidrottsnämnden, RIN).
