Johan Karlsson is one of Sweden’s most renowned competition law practitioners, and has for many years been ranked as one of the best lawyers in this area. Johan has almost thirty years’ experience across the competition law spectrum. He represents small and large companies and organisations in all kinds of competition law matters before the SCA, the European Commission and other authorities, as well as before arbitration tribunals and courts, including the EU courts.

Johan also has extensive experience in related areas such as State aids, public procurement and general compliance, as well as in sports law. Johan Karlsson is the creator and author of the reference work Competition law – a handbook, 6^th ed., 2022 (sw. Konkurrensrätt – en handbok (6:e uppl., 2022)) and of a commentary on the Competition Law Damages Act (2023). He has also published a number of articles in leading journals and other publications.

Johan is regularly asked to speak at conferences and seminars and is active in numerous Swedish and international fora and networks. For many years, he has been an adviser to the Swedish Competition Authority in the International Competition Network (ICN) and he was instructed as an expert in the inquiry regarding Increased decision-making powers for the Swedish Competition Authority (sw. Utökad beslutanderätt för Konkurrensverket (SOU 2016:49)). Johan Karlsson is also a member of the National Sports Committee (sw. Riksidrottsnämnden (RIN)).
